Notice on the Disposal of Waste Batteries
The following notice is intended for those who use batteries or products with built-in batteries and do not resell them in the form in which they were delivered (end users):
1. Free Return of Waste Batteries
Batteries must not be disposed of with household waste. You are legally obligated to return waste batteries to ensure proper disposal. You can return waste batteries to a municipal collection point or a local retailer. As a battery distributor, we are also obligated to take back waste batteries, but only those of the type that we sell or have sold as new batteries in our range. You can send such waste batteries to us with sufficient postage or drop them off free of charge at our shipping warehouse at the address provided in the legal notice.
2. Meaning of Battery Symbols
Batteries are marked with the symbol of a crossed-out trash can (see below). This symbol indicates that batteries must not be disposed of with household waste. For batteries containing more than 0.0005% mercury by mass, more than 0.002% cadmium by mass, or more than 0.004% lead by mass, the chemical symbol of the respective pollutant is displayed below the trash can symbol – "Cd" stands for cadmium, "Pb" stands for lead, and "Hg" stands for mercury.
3. Vehicle Batteries
Special conditions apply to the sale of vehicle batteries (batteries intended for starting, lighting, or ignition of vehicles): According to § 10 BattG, the seller is required to charge an end user a deposit of €7.50 (including VAT) per vehicle battery if the end user does not return an old vehicle battery at the time of purchasing a new one. The customer receives a deposit voucher upon purchase. To receive a refund of the deposit, the customer can return the old vehicle battery to the seller. Due to hazardous materials regulations, shipping the old vehicle battery to the seller is not permitted. Alternatively, the customer can return the old vehicle battery to a collection point designated by the public waste disposal authority. If the old vehicle battery is not returned to the seller who charged the deposit, the authorized collector according to § 11 (3) BattG who accepts the old vehicle battery must provide the end user with written or electronic confirmation of the return without refunding the deposit upon request. In this case, the seller will refund the deposit if the customer presents a written or electronic return receipt according to § 10 (1) Sentence 4 BattG, provided that the receipt is no more than two weeks old at the time of submission.
