It has been shown to us that while the mentioned masking tapes are good, they still fall short of the level of the "best detailing masking tape." The combination of adhesion, over-polishability—without lifting edges and transferring adhesive to the polishing pad—and tear resistance remains unmatched. KAMOI Kabuki-S, which comes from Japan, was presented to us as the benchmark.

As we already had three manufacturers of masking tape in our program, we generally make product decisions through our own testing and evaluation processes. We have thoroughly engaged with KAMOI masking tapes. KAMOI tapes come with 18 meters per roll and due to the very small core, are significantly smaller than all other masking tapes. This becomes a major advantage when working indoors or masking small areas like emblems and logos. The strength combined with flexibility is impressive, as the Kabuki-S tape appears almost rubber-like and very easy to navigate around curves and corners. In tests with flour and activated charcoal—yes, you read that right—we found no significant adhesive residues after removal from either Kabuki-S or the slightly cheaper Big Boss. From Japan? It Must Be Expensive!

As an official partner of KAMOI, we import the tapes directly from Japan and sell them in original sealed packaging units containing up to 20 rolls. With our DETAILER set, we offer all available sizes in a sample set. Based on the price per meter, we align with other masking tapes. The slightly cheaper KAMOI Big Boss is also available in Pink, providing a second color option. Big Boss offers slightly more adhesive strength and slightly less flexibility. KAMOI Kabuki-S and Big Boss are approved for paint drying at 100 degrees Celsius for up to 30 minutes, making them the most popular tape among paint shops in Japan.
